QPR have confirmed the signing of young defender Ben Wells from West Ham with him to go straight into the club's U23 side.

The R's are set for a relatively quiet summer this time around with FFP still over their heads at present.

They'll be looking to add where they can, though, and it looks as though they're going to try and boost their youth ranks where they can.

Indeed, Wells has joined from West Ham after deciding against staying with them and it'll be interesting to see how he progresses:

Arguably, the R's have got one of the better youth systems around at the moment with a number of young players finding themselves in the first team or on the fringes.

At Loftus Road, then, young players can see the chance to get first-team football and that may well be why Wells has decided to swap east for west London.

The Verdict

QPR are looking at what they can do this summer and doing it.

They can't go big in the market for senior players, just a handful will surely come in, but they can go after younger players to boost their youth ranks.

Wells might not get near the first-team this coming season, but he's in a good place to get there soon enough.
