QPR receive key player boost ahead of crucial West Brom clash

Chris Willock has been passed fit for Queens Park Rangers’ upcoming clash with promotion rivals West Brom.

Willock missed QPR’s most recent game, against Rotherham in the FA Cup. The 23-year old has been nursing a knock, which ruled him out of the Third Round clash.

QPR boss Mark Warburton admitted that everyone in his squad is fighting hard to make it into the starting team.

“Players want to play. I have had everyone banging on my door this week,” Warburton said, via West London Sport.

“They are all saying ‘I’m ready to play’. I know they are ready to play, they are competitive animals and they want to perform.

“We always talk about having a squad to cope with the demands of this relentless division. But we can only name 11 players and only 14 can be involved and there are some really good players not getting enough pitch time.

“It is difficult, but all they can do is work hard every day. They have to realise that it’s a squad game and a player may come on in the 88th minute and score the winner or make a last-ditch tackle.”

Quiz: Can you name which club QPR signed these 28 midfielders from?

Dani Parejo?

Warburton confirmed that everyone who featured in the shootout win over Rotherham came through it without any injuries, much to his relief.

QPR have four former West Brom players in their squad, including Charlie Austin and Sam Field who both joined from the Baggies in the Summer. Stefan Johansen and Willock also spent time with their upcoming opponents.

Warburton also confirmed that he has cleared the air with Austin, who reacted strangely to his substitution in last weekend’s game.

QPR go into this weekend’s fixture in fifth place, directly behind West Brom in fourth. There is only one point separating the two sides, and QPR even have a game in hand on Valerien Ismael’s side.

The Hoops have won their last two league games, so go into the weekend in good form. Those victories came against Birmingham City and Bristol City.

The Verdict

Willock has been an important player for QPR this season, so his absence would have been sorely felt if he weren’t available for this upcoming game with West Brom.

His six goals and four assists have made him a key figure in QPR’s attack.

This is a crucial game in QPR’s bid for promotion. The game in hand means a draw here isn’t the worst result, but a defeat would cut them completely adrift of the automatic places.

Sorting out the issues with Austin is also pivotal, as he could be the decisive figure this weekend.
