Milton Keynes Dons are expecting an official approach from Queens Park Rangers for head coach Liam Manning, according to the Evening Standard.

The Hoops are now managerless with Mark Warburton departing the club following the end of the 2021-22 Championship season after finishing in 11th position, despite challenging for the play-offs for a lot of the second half of the campaign.

And having been linked with the vacancy earlier in May, Manning is set to be head-hunted by the west London club and the Dons are waiting to hear from them regarding any approach.

In his first season as a head coach in England, Manning led MK Dons to third place in League One, just one point off Rotherham United in second position which would have secured an automatic promotion to the second tier.

The Dons though were touched off in the play-off semi-finals by Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 on aggregate, ending Manning's season earlier than planned.

That could be the 36-year-old's last match in charge of the Dons potentially as QPR look set to strike in the near future.

The Verdict

The style of play that MK Dons have shown in League One under Manning, coupled with their improved performances on last season, meant that their boss was always going to be targeted if promotion wasn't secured.

Even though they exited the play-offs earlier than anticipated, it doesn't lessen the job that Manning did, and he's rightly getting noticed.

QPR seemingly are going down the head coach route as opposed to a manager, and having coached in Belgium, the USA and England, Manning has a lot of experience in his young career already.

He could be the man to get the best out of some of QPR's talented young players, but until an official approach is made then a deal is a long way from being sorted.
