Queens Park Rangers have opened talks to sign Wato Kuate on a free transfer and are considering offering him a trial this week, according to a report from Teamtalk.

The Hoops have had a busy transfer window up until this point and now with just days left it looks as though they are still looking to add, though Kuate isn't at the mercy of the deadline here.

Kuate may well have last played abroad for Finnish side RoPS but because he would be on a free if he joined there is no time restraint, and hence the R's can offer him a trial first.

They are apparently not alone in their interest concerning the Cameroonian, though, with fellow Championship sides Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest also reportedly keen.

The story claims that it is the Hoops who are at the front of the queue for the holding midfielder, though, and we'll have to see if they can formalise a deal.

The Verdict

QPR have operated carefully in the transfer window and have looked to pick up signings on the cheap or on loan.

Kuate would cost little in terms of a fee and if he impresses on his trial he could be another shrewd signing.

Let's see what happens.
