Queens Park Rangers have dropped out of the race to sign midfielder Dylan McGeouch, according to West London Sport.

McGeouch had been considered a top target for QPR this summer as he will become available as a free agent at the end of this month if he does not pen fresh terms with Hibernian.

But the Hoops have decided not to pursue this deal, opening the door for a number of teams to pounce.

Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers and QPR's West London neighbours Brentford are among the Championship clubs thought to be interested in the attacking midfielder while another West London side Fulham were keen before winning promotion.

These sides face competition from the Scottish Premiership for McGeouch with Aberdeen in the hunt Rangers eyeing a move for the former Celtic man.

Hibs have not given up hope of keeping their 25-year-old star, though, and have a new contract offer on the table for him.

The newly-capped Scotland international was on the radar of QPR but they have now admitted that they are not in a position to firm up their interest with an offer.

McGeouch has previous experience in England, playing eight games on loan at Coventry City in League One.

The Verdict

Since leaving Celtic, McGeouch has taken his game to the next level with Hibs, earning himself a senior Scotland call-up.

In order to continue with his progress, a move to the Championship would be wise for him.

QPR would have been a good destination as they need some creativity in midfield but he does have other options on the table.
