Queens Park Rangers have opened talks with Luke Freeman over a new contract, with the R’s keen to tie the influential midfielder down to fresh terms at Loftus Road.

After an impressive 2017/18 campaign, which saw Freeman score five goals and assist a further 12, the midfielder attracted plenty of interest over the course of the summer.

According to HITC Sport, after fending off interest from their Championship rivals, QPR now plan to tie Freeman down to a long-term deal at Loftus Road, with talks open between the two parties.

Freeman arrived at Loftus Road on a three-and-a-half year deal back in January 2017, with the midfielder in impressive form since then.

The ex-Bristol City player, 26, has featured in all 10 Championship fixtures this season, scoring one Championship goal and registering one assist for Steve McClaren’s side.

He’s also added a goal in the League Cup, proving to be a key player once again at Loftus Road.

QPR currently sit 19th in the Championship table, with McClaren’s side losing their last two fixtures.

Those results have left the R’s only four points clear of the Championship’s relegation zone after 10 fixtures.

The Verdict

Freeman has been key for QPR over the course of the last year, so a new deal is more than deserved.

After a summer that saw the midfielder attract interest, it’s little surprise to see from QPR.

Getting this contract agreed as soon as possible is going to be a priority.
