Queens Park Rangers have been handed a boost today with the news that highly-rated midfielder Michael Doughty has signed a new deal with the club.
The club confirmed on their official website this afternoon that the 22-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a contract extension which will now see him stay with the club until the summer of 2018.
Doughty’s work rate was praised earlier in the season by R’s boss Chris Ramsey and his workmanlike performances have seen him make seven appearances in the Championship so far during the 2015/16 campaign.
The youngster has been with the club since the age of 14, and actually turned out for the R’s three times in the Premier League last season, making his debut in a 2-0 win away at Sunderland.
The R’s sit in a disappointing 11th place in the Championship at present after a difficult start to life back in the second tier following a summer of transition.
Doughty’s contract extension is a sign of the times at Loftus Road with the club now looking to tie down the club’s best young talent rather then spending millions of pounds on new recruits, as they have done in the past.
R’s fans… Are you happy with this news? Just how good is Doughty? Can he go all the way to the top? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
