Doncaster Rovers are rumoured to be interested in a deal to sign QPR goalkeeper Dillon Barnes on loan ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, according to Doncaster Free Press.

The 25-year-old didn't make a single appearance for the Rs' first-team last term, whilst also spending time out on loan with both Hibernian and Burton Albion.

Barnes stepped off the substitutes bench to feature for Doncaster in their recent pre-season clash against Harrogate Town on Saturday, as the club cast their eye over him.

Speaking in a recent interview with Doncaster Free Press, manager Richie Wellens confirmed that the League One side are looking at Barnes as a potential option ahead of the 2021/22 season.

“Dillon Barnes has come from QPR. Paul Gerrard has a good relationship with Gavin Ward at QPR and that’s the thinking behind that. We’re hoping to have a keeper in in the next 48 hours.

"It could be Dillon Barnes but we also have two other irons in the fire. We need it. We need some experience or quality in there to really push Louis."

Doncaster Rovers are set to take on AFC Wimbledon in their first league match of the season this weekend, where they'll be looking to get off to the ideal start with a win at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Verdict:

This will be the ideal move for all parties involved.

Barnes is unlikely to be a regular starter for QPR this term, especially when Seny Dieng has been as impressive as he has last season for Mark Warburton's side.

Therefore, it makes sense for him to depart the club this summer, and a move to Doncaster Rovers could be a smart move, as he's more likely to find regular game time with the League One side next season than he would with QPR.

It's surely on a matter of time before he departs QPR on a permanent basis as well though, as it seems hard to believe that he'll dislodge Dieng from their starting XI anytime soon.
