QPR midfielder Geoff Cameron has revealed that he has held talks with the club about extending his contract and claimed that he is keen to stay.

The versatile R's man turns 35 this summer and is out of contract at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The USA international has been an important part of Mark Warburton's side this season – making 29 appearances so far and looking comfortable both at centre-back and in defensive midfield.

It could be a summer of change for the west London club with the likes of Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ebere Eze generating some interest from Premier League clubs.

It appears Cameron may stay on at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, however, as, in an interview with West London Sport, he discussed his potential summer exit and revealed he has held talks with the club.

He said: "There have been talks, but right now it’s not the focus.

“Right now is probably not the right time to be speaking about that, with people struggling, losing their jobs and worrying about family.

“I’m happy at QPR and I’d like to stay, and when the time’s right there’ll be more discussions, but right now it’s not the priority."

QPR are 13th in the Championship as things stand and may feel that with nine games left of the 2019/20 campaign, closing the six-point gap on the play-off places is not out of the question.

The Verdict

Cameron has been a really useful player for Warburton this season and despite his age, it seems like a no-brainer to extend his contract for one more year.

He is an experienced head, something that is really valuable alongside the young talent in the R's squad.

That being said, the club shouldn't be breaking the bank to keep him in west London – though given his willingness to stay they shouldn't have to.
