Queens Park Rangers have had an up and down season thus far, recovering from a horror-show start to now be within five points of the play-offs.

Steve McClaren has faced several different obstacles this term and has overcome them with flying colours.

Things have had to change since the start of the season, but one constant has remained the same.

And that is the inclusion of left-back, Jake Bidwell.

The 25-year-old has been an ever-present for the Hoops this season, playing 1920 minutes over the past four months.

But one thing that has not changed is his contract situation, the former Brentford man opened up in an interview with Football London and revealed he is yet to hear from QPR regarding a new deal.

Bidwell could leave Loftus Road on a free transfer in the summer should his situation remain the same, and it is something the defender has admitted to the uncertainty surrounding his future has left him feeling unsettled.

The 25-year-old said: “I haven’t heard anything from the club at the moment, but I’m sure they’ve got a plan one way or another.

"I’m enjoying the football at the moment and enjoying how we’re playing, and obviously that goes hand in hand with getting good results.

"I’m enjoying it at the moment, and I’m just concentrating on that, and I’m sure that if and when the club are ready to come and talk to me, I’m sure they will.

“It’s always in the back of your mind when you get to this sort of stage in your contract.

"But I’m enjoying it at the minute, we’re picking up some good results, and I’m playing my part in that, so I’m just trying to concentrate on that.

"There’s always that in the back of your mind where you think about what might happen next season but you’ve just got to concentrate on your football."

The verdict

What are QPR doing? Surely a new deal for Jake Bidwell should be in the pipeline and forthcoming sooner rather than later.

He has been the second most used player this season, narrowly behind Luke Freeman regarding minutes played in the league, and has been a solid member of the first-team in recent years.

With his contract expiration looming, it’s either Steve McClaren ties him down to a new deal, or risk losing one of his trusted lieutenants in the summer for nothing.

I think it would be ludicrous of QPR not to get this man signed up on a long-term deal as soon as possible.
