Queens Park Rangers are targeting a short-term loan for a Premier League striker.

According to the print edition of The Daily Star via the Sky Sports News Paper Talk page, QPR have made an approach to sign Nahki Wells from Burnley on a loan deal until January.

QPR missed out on adding a striker during the permanent transfer window so they are eyeing a loan signing to help their goal scoring problems.

Their current options are Matt Smith, Conor Washington and Idrissa Sylla but all three players have struggled to find the net on a regular basis.

After losing their opening three Championship games of the season, including a 7-1 thrashing at West Brom, Steve McClaren is eyeing new recruits to help lift the Hoops off the foot of the table.

Wells is experienced at Championship level and fits the bill for QPR.

During his time at Bradford City in League Two and League One, the 28-year-old scored 53 goals in 112 outings before scoring 49 goals in 153 games for Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

But the Bermuda international is down the pecking order at Burnley, where he failed to score in 10 games last term.

The Verdict

Wells is clearly not wanted at Burnley and he is the fifth choice striker there.

A loan move to the Championship will not only benefit him but it would benefit QPR as well.

Wells is someone who knows where the net is at this level and he could put away chances created by the likes of Luke Freeman and Eberechi Eze.
