Queens Park Rangers have submitted a second bid for Linfield winger Paul Smyth, according to a report by Sky Sports News.

Sky sources understand that QPR have made an improved offer for Paul Smyth, who is a wanted man this summer.

The Linfield youngster is considered to be one of the hottest prospects in Northern Ireland right now.

The 20-year-old, who can play as a striker or as a winger, was part of the Linfield side that won the Northern Ireland Football League Premiership last season.

The Northern Ireland under-21 international recently opened his account for the young Irishmen and was even invited to join Michael O'Neill's senior Northern Ireland squad in training ahead of Euro 2016 so that he could gain some experience.

Queens Park Rangers have already seen a bid turned down but have improved their offer.

QPR are likely to face competition from Reading for Paul Smyth's signature, hence why they have firmed up their interest with some concrete offers.

Reading recently had scouts watching Paul Smyth in action against Ards at The Bangor Fuels Arena.

Linfield won the clash 2-0 with Smyth setting up the first goal and being denied on three occasions by the Ards goalkeeper.

However, Linfield boss David Healy has laughed off suggestions that he is leaving.

The Verdict

Paul Smyth is regarded as the best young talent in Northern Ireland at the moment and he has been identified as a future star for the national side.

QPR and Reading could go head to head for his signature so the West London outfit are wise to steal a march on their rivals and submit some bids.

Probably available for a small fee, this could prove to be a shrewd investment for the future.
