Championship side Queens Park Rangers have joined Bolton, Ipswich, and Leeds in the race for Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina, according to Get West London.
The 20-year-old came up through the ranks at the Etihad Stadium to earn his senior debut in an FA Cup tie back in 2016, before going on to play another three times for the club that season, including once in the Premier League.
However, he was shipped out on loan to Dutch outfit FC Twente last season, and produced some fine form with five goals and five assists in just 28 games for the club, helping them to seventh place in the Eredivisie.
Despite his excellent spell in the Netherlands, he’s highly unlikely to earn a regular spot in Pep Guardiola’s first team anytime soon, and has thus attracted interest from several Championship clubs, with the likes of Bolton, Ipswich, and Leeds all reportedly considering a loan move.
Yet, recent reports suggest that Ian Holloway’s QPR are also in the race to land the midfielder, this just days after Celina himself reportedly said that he was ‘most likely’ going to be joining Phil Parkinson’s Bolton.
Nonetheless, it appears that Hoops chief Holloway is interested in the 20-year-old, as he looks to build a side that perform better than their 18th place finish last season.
Yet, with a potential Financial Fair Play fine lingering over Loftus Road, they may be restricted in what they do in the transfer market, with loan deals and free transfer their most likely avenue, of which Celina fits the bill.
Nonetheless, whether Holloway does indeed look to seal a deal for the City star remains to be seen, but if he does he’ll get a quality player who has proven himself in one of Europe’s top leagues, and thus could turn out to be an excellent addition to the QPR side.
