QPR have announced that they're in advanced discussions over securing a new site for their training ground and have scrapped previous plans to build one at Warren Farm.

The R's ambitions to convert the Warren Farm Sports Centre, which is near Osterley Park, were revealed more than eight years ago.

The west London club have faced a series of legal challenges and ongoing opposition from residents' groups over their plans for the Warren Farm site.

In 2018, QPR looked to have made some significant progress as the Supreme Court rejected a final appeal by the parties objecting to the project but, last month, a nature group were given permission to push for a further judicial review.

It appears that will not need to happen, as earlier today the club announced they had scrapped their plans for the Warren Farm site and were now pursuing an alternative location for their new training ground.

It is understood that the decision was made earlier this year after an alternative site became available to buy.

In a statement on the club website, CEO Lee Hoos revealed that QPR were in "advanced discussions" over an agreement concerning the new location.

He said: "We are in advanced discussions regarding the freehold of another site which we decided to pursue when the opportunity to acquire the site came up.

“In the spirit of the excellent working relationship we have with Ealing Council we have made them aware of the situation and assured them we remain firmly committed to helping them develop the site for community use.

“As there is a non-disclosure agreement in place regarding the other site, no further comment will be made at this time.”

The Verdict

The Warren Farm saga has now gone on for the best part of a decade and you feel many fans may be happy to see the back of it, particularly with the club seemingly far along in discussions with another site.

Given the current situation, now is perhaps not the best time to start work on a new training ground but it makes sense for the R's to get everything in place for when they feel they can do so.

Securing a new site would be a significant agreement for the R's, so will be interesting to discover where the new site is and what the plans are in due course.
