Queens Park Rangers could be handed a major boost this weekend with the potential inclusion of Luke Freeman.

Steve McClaren confirmed to the club’s official website that the attacker has a chance of featuring despite coming off in the closing stages on Tuesday evening.

The 26-year-old hobbled off after the Hoops had made all three subs with what looked to be a hip problem.

Freeman’s absence was terminal for QPR who conceded a 94th-minute goal to lose 3-2 to West Bromwich Albion.

There were fears amongst the west London club that the attacker would have to sit out the trip to Middlesbrough, but McClaren is hopeful Freeman will be able to play a part this weekend.

Speaking to the club’s official site, the Hoops boss said: “Luke isn’t as bad as we first thought, so that is encouraging.

“We are reviewing it today, and we will make a late decision on him. But knowing we have Leeds and Brentford coming up, we have to be careful."

With the injury not being as bad as first feared, this is a boost to QPR’s chances of ending a run of six straight defeats.

The verdict

Freeman’s possible availability is a significant boost to the club and their chances of stopping their current losing streak.

The 26-year-old has been one of their better players this season, and without him, they struggle.

McClaren will be relieved his talisman could be fit and available for the trip to Middlesbrough as without him it might have gone down as a foregone conclusion in favour of a QPR defeat.
