QPR have announced that Angel Rangel has signed a contract extension until the end of this year's league campaign.

The Spaniard's original deal with the club had been due to expire on 30th June, but due to off-the-field events, the club have agreed a short-term extension on his contract.

Rangel has made 19 appearances for QPR this season, and has been a reliable member of Mark Warburton's squad when called upon.

The Hoops are currently sat 13th in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can mount a late push for the play-off places in the second tier, with Warburton's men only seven points adrift of the top-six.

QPR didn't get off to the start they would have hoped for in their first game back in action, as they fell to a surprising defeat to relegation-threatened Barnsley last weekend.

So, they'll be eager to get back to winning ways this weekend, when they take on London rivals Charlton Athletic at The Valley in the early kick-off.

The Verdict:

This is definitely the right call by QPR.

Rangel has been a reliable member of the squad when called upon, and I don't think his age is a concern heading into the conclusion of this year's campaign.

The Spaniard's experience will be vital in helping aid the development of some of the younger members of the QPR squad, so he's a good player to have in and around the dressing room.

I think QPR will be tempted to offer him a one-year deal ahead of the 2020/21 season if he can impress in the final eight matches of this year's campaign.
