Queens Park Rangers defender Toni Leistner is set to join German outfit Cologne on-loan for the remainder of the season, according to West London Sport.

'The Big Friendly German' is a favourite at QPR, but he's not been favoured by Mark Warburton. The former Bees boss tried to move Leistner on in the summer, and even striped him of his captaincy.

He slowly worked his way back into the team, but has this month lost his starting spot to Conor Masterson - the 21-year-old made his debut against Swansea in the FA Cup earlier in the month, and has impressed ever since.

Leistner looks set to join Bundesliga strugglers Cologne until the end of the campaign. FC Koln as their otherwise known, are 17th in the Bundesliga table with three points separating them from the drop zone.

The QPR man has never played in the German top-flight, but has almost 150 in the Bundesliga 2, and 71 for QPR in one-and-a-half seasons at the club, having joined on a free transfer from Union Berlin in 2018.

Fans will be sad to see Leistner leave. He's a well-liked player and a leader on and off the pitch for the club. But Warburton hasn't favoured him, and a loan-move could be beneficial for all involved.

The verdict

Leistner has 18-months left on his QPR contract, but it looks like his time in West London might come to an end in the summer.

If this loan-move goes through it'd signal Leistner's current displeasure at QPR and he could push to make his move permanent in the summer, or to be sold elsewhere if Cologne don't choose to make his stay permanent.
