Queens Park Rangers are battling Championship rivals Barnsley for the signature of Stevenage striker Danny Newton, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Newton started off in non-league and joined the Jamie Vardy Academy before signing for the League 2 club.
The striker has 11 goals from 30 appearances in all competitions for Darren Sarll’s side this season and has attracted the attention of Ian Holloway as he looks to bolster his frontline this January.
He also won the goal of the round in FA Cup Round Two for an incredible solo goal in Stevenage’s 5-2 FA Cup win against Swindon Town, as voted for by fans.
Holloway has got a knack of taking players who have a point to prove and bringing them up a level and that is what he will hope to do with Newton.
Goalscorers are invaluable in the frantic January transfer window and I think QPR could do a lot worse than take a punt on a player who will be hungry to prove he is worthy of playing in the second tier.
QPR fans – do you want Newton to sign in January? Let us know in the comments below…
