QPR have confirmed that exciting attacker Bright Osayi-Samuel has had his contract at The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium extended by an extra year.

The club revealed that they had taken up the option on Wednesday evening putting them in a much stronger position to deal with any potential transfer bids in the summer - the winger had already been linked with moves to the Premier League in January.

The 22 year-old made the move to West London from Blackpool back in the summer of 2017, signing a three year deal, with this season proving to be a breakthrough campaign for him.

He has netted five goals in 25 matches in the second tier this season, contributing a further five assists along the way as well.

Mark Warburton's side currently sit in 16th place with 33 matches played in the Championship, 11 points clear of the relegation zone but also 11 behind the pace for the play-offs as well.

This weekend sees them travel to Nottingham Forest, giving Warburton the chance to show his former side what he can still do as the Reds push for promotion.

The verdict

This is really good news for The R's.

There was plenty of fear in January that the winger may be poached in that month or, even worse, leave for nothing during the summer window.

So the decision to extend his contract by an extra year is the sensible one to make. It protects the club in the summer and should ensure a reasonable fee for his services.
