Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Joe Lumley has left the club on an emergency loan deal with him linking up with League One side Gillingham.

The Hoops were aiming to get one of Lumley or Liam Kelly out on loan during the transfer window but neither ended up moving, with Mark Warburton making it clear that Seny Dieng would be the R's number 1 at the outset this season.

So that has proven, too, but Lumley now has a chance to move and get some game time for the Gills in the next week or so:

The goalkeeper situation has gotten dire at the Kent club and so the EFL have granted them permission to sign Lumley on loan for their next two games.

They play Sunderland this weekend and then take on Crewe Alexandra and Lumley will be hoping to show what he can do before heading back to W12.

The Verdict

This should be a good move for Lumley.

It's only a brief spell of course but it is minutes on the board and it gives him a chance to earn some match sharpness with Dieng looking assured of the number 1 spot right now.

Let's see how he does, then, in the next two games.
