The new EFL season gets underway in a matter of days now, with Luton Town and Middlesbrough going head-to-head at Kenilworth Road.

For many at this time of year, optimism is high ahead of a fresh campaign and fans at QPR will be hoping a new era under Mark Warburton will see them challenge at the right end of the table.

The former Rangers and Brentford boss has certainly been busy in this window, with another three players arriving in recent days, and the squad has quality laced through it.

One man that isn't going to be playing a part in anything the R's do this year or in the future, though, is David Wheeler with him moving to Wycombe Wanderers on a free transfer.

The R's confirmed the news on their official Twitter channel earlier today:

The Verdict

This is perhaps not the most surprising development in the world.

Wheeler could not force his way into the Hoops' plans for one reason or another during his time at Loftus Road and spent loan spells away from the club at the likes of MK Dons.

Wycombe are the side to have him for his next chapter of his career, though, and he'll be looking to make an impact in League One as the Chairboys look to have a productive season.
