Queens Park Rangers have confirmed the decision to extend left-back Ryan Manning's contract an extra year with his original deal set to expire this summer.

He had been linked with moves away from The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium accross this season so far but the R's have moved to ensure that they get a fee for his services this summer if he does end up departing.

This has been a breakthrough season for Manning after spending the previous one out on loan with Rotherham United.

Under Mark Warburton's stewardship, however, he has made 28 appearances, netting once and assisting five more for the R's.

Mark Warburton's side currently sit in 16th place with 33 matches played in the Championship, 11 points clear of the relegation zone but also 11 behind the pace for the play-offs as well.

This weekend sees them travel to Nottingham Forest, giving Warburton the chance to show his former side what he can still do as the Reds push for promotion.

The verdict

This is a very sensible move from the R's, tying a potentially valuable option down for at least another year.

Losing Manning for nothing in the summer would have been terrible for the club, especially with their new, sustainable model for the running of the club.

At the very least they have now ensured a decent fee will be received in the summer for his services. And in the best case, he stays and commits his future even further to the Hoops.
