QPR boss reveals that they beat a Premier League side to sign midfielder

Queens Park Rangers beat two sides to the signing of Josh Scowen in the summer, manager Ian Holloway has confirmed.

Local media outlet Get West London is reporting that Ian Holloway has revealed that Scowen had a number of options this summer.

Despite having an offer from a Championship side that finished higher than the West London outfit and having a separate offer from a Premier League outfit, Josh Scowen opted to move to Loftus Road and join Ian Holloway’s side.

Since arriving on a free transfer, having left Barnsley at the end of last season, Scowen has stood out in midfield for the Hoops with some dominant displays in the heart of midfield.

Holloway revealed his delight at snapping up Scowen after he turned down bigger offers from higher clubs to join QPR.

Speaking to Sky Sports, with quotes provided by Get West London, Ian Holloway said:

“Josh could have gone to two teams bigger than us, one a premier league team, the other a Championship team with a lot more money than we’ve got and he wanted to come here, so for me that’s where my season started.”

The Verdict

Signing Josh Scowen on a free transfer has gone under the radar but has the potential to be one of the signings of the summer in the Championship.

Considering they spent no money for him and he turned down bigger sums of money and a Premier League side, QPR have done extremely well to snap up the experienced midfielder, who seems to have slotted straight in.

Holloway will be delighted to have players like Scowen at the club – players who actually want to be there!
