Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway takes his side to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City, knowing he won't be in for a quiet afternoon due to his connections with bitter rivals Bristol Rovers.

He is a proud Bristolian and understands the nature of the rivalry between the two clubs but made a surprising confession about which side he was supporting when Lee Johnson's Robins side took on Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash on Tuesday night.

Holloway might have made 397 league appearances for Rovers but he was supporting Johnson's side as they looked to do the impossible and come from two goals down to knock out table-toppers City.

He told the club's official website: "I actually felt very proud of their club for what they did. I don't think they will ever believe me but I was supporting them. As a proud Bristolian, I was proud of them."

The Verdict

I think Holloway is right about one thing, Bristol City fans will never believe him when he says that he was supporting Lee Johnson's side.

Holloway will be preparing himself for an afternoon of abuse but also looking to exploit any tiredness in the Robins side as they look to get their form together after a poor run, with the cup run taking their eye off the ball.
