Queens Park Rangers held a fan forum yesterday to discuss affairs at the club, and the club’s Director of Football and former player Les Ferdinand spoke about the possibility of signing their loan players permanently in the summer.

Les Ferdinand was joined by Mark Warburton and CEO Lee Hoos as they answered the fans questions yesterday, in the club’s latest Fans’ Forum.

Questions on all the club’s current affairs were discussed, and one fan asked whether the club will be signing any of their loan players in January. Ferdinand responded with:

“That’s a discussion that we’re having all the time, myself and Mark and the rest of the coaches.

“They’ve all got clauses in their contracts that meant they couldn’t be called back in January, but the good news for us is that they all want to stay - all of them want to be a part of what we’re doing.”

QPR currently have five players on-loan, all from Premier League clubs - Matt Smith from Manchester City, Luke Amos from Tottenham Hotspur, Jan Mlakar from Brighton, Jordan Hugill from West Ham and Nahki Wells from Burnley.

The latter two have been the best of the bunch. Up-front together, they’ve scored 15 Championship goals between them already this season, and Wells has stated publicly that he’d love to stay with the club beyond next summer.

The verdict

The loan-market has been a good friend to QPR in recent years, with their minimal-spend agenda following a record-breaking FFP fine.

Fans would love to see all of their loan-players stay next year - in Smith, Amos and Mlakar they’d be signing three young players who could have a bright future with the club.

It’s a good sign though that the players on-loan at QPR are saying they want to stay. Morale and confidence should be high at the club right now, and they'll look for a first win in four against Fulham in two weeks time.
