Queens Park Rangers have signed Toni Leistner on a free transfer, the club's official website has confirmed.

Leistner joins QPR on a three-year contract after leaving FC Union Berlin in Germany.

The 27-year-old stands at 6ft 3in tall and is a dominant and physical defender who joins Steve McClaren's QPR side ahead of the upcoming 2018/19 Championship campaign.

The German defender started his career with local club SC Borea Dresden before moving to Dynamo Dresden.

In 2014. he moved to FC Union Berlin, playing for four years with the 2 Bundesliga side

The Hoops have now completed their pursuit of a new centre-back with Grant Hall just recovering from a long-term injury and Nedum Onuoha and James Perch leaving the club.

QPR have beaten other English clubs to Leistner's signature, with Aston Villa and Norwich City both linked.

Leistner has already flown out to Portugal to meet his new team-mates for pre-season.

The Verdict

QPR have done well to beat other Championship clubs to Leistner's signature and he is a cheap replacement for Onuoha.

They needed a new centre-half and this could just prove to be a shrewd move, if he can adapt to English football.

He is dominant in the air, comfortable with the ball on the ground and a threat from set-pieces.
