Chelsea are set to sanction the loan exit of Dujon Sterling, according to the Evening Standard.

QPR and Preston North End are just two of the clubs chasing a move to sign the 22-year old.

Thomas Tuchel has now decided that he would like to see the defender go out on a temporary basis in order to gain further senior experience.

Sterling only has one year remaining on his current Chelsea contract, but the Premier League side retains a clause to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

While the Blues are now open to a loan deal, the club intends to not include any possible options for a further sale as they hope to keep the player at Stamford Bridge on a long-term basis.

Sterling has previous Championship experience having spent a stint on loan with Blackpool last season.

The Chelsea academy graduate played 24 times in the league for Neil Critchley’s side, but is hoping to sign for a more upwardly mobile side this summer.

The defender was utilised in a number of positions for the Seasiders, proving his versatility.

That could be a big asset for Ryan Lowe or Michael Beale as both managers chase the signing of the Englishman.

The Verdict

Sterling performed well for Blackpool last season and showed he is a more than capable Championship level player.

A move to QPR or PNE would be another step up again, which would be a positive sign for his development.

Sterling will need to impress wherever he goes in order to have any chance of forcing his way into Tuchel’s plans.

That Chelsea are looking to avoid a permanent sale indicates they think highly of his talent, which makes him an exciting prospect for whoever signs him.
