A trio of Sky Bet Championship clubs are in the hunt to sign Modou Barrow from Swansea City, according to a reliable journalist.

Alan Nixon is reporting that the battle is on as three Championship clubs are vying for the Swansea City outcast.

Modou Barrow looks set to leave Swansea City before the end of the summer transfer window after being frozen out by Paul Clement.

Last January, he was shipped out to Leeds United on a half season loan deal but failed to make an impact at Elland Road as the Whites finished 7th and missed out on the play-offs.

Now, three other Championship clubs want the winger, who can also play up front.

Queens Park Rangers and Barnsley are considering a move for Barrow while Reading remain interested.

QPR are looking for a bit of inspiration in the attacking midfield regions and Ian Holloway seems to believe that the six-cap Gambia international fits the bill.

Barrow provides plenty of pace but there are question marks looming over his end product.

Barnsley are still looking to bring players in to replace a number of outgoing stars.

One of those is Marley Watkins, who joined Norwich City this summer, and Barrow could be his successor in the wide areas at Oakwell.

Reading also still hold an interest in Barrow, according to Nixon.

The Verdict

Personally, I do not think that Reading need an inconsistent attacker like Mo Barrow when they have better options in Popa, McCleary, Beerens and Clement.

Barnsley and QPR could do with his pace and raw skill, though.

The 24-year-old has some flair and he has shown glimpses of his talent at Swansea but he needs a move where he is playing regular football so that he can fulfil his potential.
