QPR winger Bright Osayi-Samuel has given his post-match verdict after his brace helped Mark Warburton's side hammer Cardiff City 6-1 on New Year's Day.

It took the 22-year-old's tally for the season to four goals in 18 appearances and was the perfect way to round off his birthday celebrations, after turning 22 on New Year's Eve.

Writing on Twitter alongside a photo of one of his celebrations, Osayi-Samuel said: "6-1 win today!

Glad to end my birthday with 2 goals ⚽️⚽️ & congrats @nahkiwells on your hatrick ❤️."

Do you know where these 15 ex-QPR players are playing now?

The two attackers put the home side in firm control within 30 minutes, both notching, with Wells setting up Osay-Samuel to make it 2-0 after 27 minutes.

After the winger had made it three before half-time, Wells scored twice more to round off his hat-trick and ensure a healthy return to scoring form, with Ebere Eze picking up a well deserved goal of his own.

Will Vaulks dragged one back for the visitors late on but it was too late, as QPR picked up their first win in five Championship games to kick the decade off in style.

The verdict

Osayi-Samuel has every right to be delighted with his and his teammates' displays on Wednesday afternoon.

They were simply unplayable at times and, although Cardiff were very poor indeed, it should not detract from the brutality the R's showed in front of goal.

The young winger in particular stood out. He has been steadily growing into the side over the course of the season but he now seems to be in a position where he is trusted to produce the goods from the start.
