Angel Rangel is set for surgery on his Achilles after tearing it against Luton Town, QPR have confirmed on their official website.

Rangel had to come off against the Hatters in their 1-1 earlier this week in the Sky Bet Championship, with him in clear discomfort having picked up the issue away from anyone else on the pitch.

Indeed, Mark Warburton was worried it was a nasty injury and so his fears have been proven accurate, with the Hoops now seeing the veteran defender needing surgery - which will take place next week.

As per the update from the club, R's doctor Dr Imtiaz Ahmad has said that the defender is looking at a six to nine month lay-off period once surgery has been carried out, so we won't be seeing the player for some time with this in mind.

The Verdict

This is such a blow for Rangel.

He's a top professional and Hoops fans have really taken to him since his arrival in W12.

He'll be looking to recover as quickly as possible once he has had the surgery but it's going to be a long road to recovery and he could well miss a fair bit of next season depending on when it starts.
