Sheffield Wednesday earned a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory against QPR at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this evening.

Goals from Morgan Fox and Sam Winnall proved enough for the visitors despite a late Nahki Wells strike. The game burst into life in the last 10 minutes after an affair that offered had few moments of true quality.

The introduction of Bright Osayi-Samuel and Nahki Wells buoyed QPR late on but they were unable to salvage a result.

Both sides made six changes, which seemed to contribute to what was a tepid first half in West London, with few moments of true quality and 'cup magic' nowhere to be seen.

Monk will no doubt have asked his players for a reaction after the 5-0 hammering against Blackburn Rovers and Wednesday did look the stronger of the two sides in the opening exchanges.

Jacob Murphy looked the most likely for them early on and found himself in some dangerous positions but was unable to produce a final product–something that proved the story of the half for both sides.

For the hosts, Ilias Chair and Jack Clarke grew into things in the first half and began to cause some problems for the Wednesday defence but Cameron Dawson was barely tested in the Owls' net.

Some quick thinking earned Monk's side the lead in the 43rd minute. The QPR defence seemed to switch off to the danger of a throw-in in the final third, which allowed Sam Hutchinson to find Fox in acres of space in the box.

The left-back drove toward goal and toe-poked his effort under Joe Lumley, who will be disappointed not to have done more to keep it out.

The visitors carried that momentum through half-time and looked threatening in the opening stages of the second period.

Warburton threw on in-form playmaker Osayi-Samuel with around 25 minutes to go, which proved a catalyst for Mark Warburton's side.

The 22-year-old wreaked havoc against Leeds United last weekend and almost instantly created two good chances, teeing up first Marc Pugh and then Chair but neither could hit the target.

Minutes late he sparked into life once again, spinning away from Adam Reach and delivering a testing ball into the box but both Ebere Eze and substitute Wells had their shots blocked.

Up the other end, Wednesday substitute Atdhe Nuhiu was nearly gifted a goal by Lumley but a last-ditch challenge by one of his backline saved his blushes.

With two minutes left of the 90, QPR had a penalty shout waved away by the referee after Pugh was brought down by Ryan Manning.

Wednesday doubled their lead through Sam Winnall in the 1st minute of added time. The visitors broke quickly and Reach's low cross found the Owls forward with the goal at his mercy–he made no mistake.

QPR were not done, however, and pulled one back soon after. Wells latched onto a poor ball from the back and rounded Dawson before sliding the ball into the back of the net.

They looked full of belief in the dying moments and threw players forward in search of an equaliser. A dangerous corner fell to Todd Kane outside the box but he blazed his effort wide with the last kick of the game.

Wednesday earn themselves a place in the next round of the FA Cup, perhaps a perfect remedy after the 5-0 defeat last weekend.
