There's little time left in the transfer window now and it seems as though Nottingham Forest could well be rather active.

Martin O'Neill arrived earlier this month to replace Aitor Karanka and he has looked to make some signings as he shapes the squad into how he wants it.

That said, the rumours are persisting and Football Insider reckon that he is keen on trying to bring in Kevin McDonald.

The midfielder has fallen out of favour at Fulham this season and that, combined with his age, might well put some Reds fans off of him - and that's fair enough.

However, despite the glut of midfielders they have at the club right now, few possess the class and poise McDonald does - at Championship level - when on the ball.

For Fulham last season he was a superb bedrock on which the Cottagers sprung attacks.

A more progressive thinking defensive midfielder than many at the club, and a more composed mind than others, McDonald could be the metronome Forest need to start exuding more control on games.

Without doubt, he'll need some time to get back up to speed but it's his class on the ball and awareness on the pitch that he'd be signed for, not lung-busting runs.

He's a very effective operator from deep, then, and fans should not be concerned about certain aspects of his make-up because the potential advantages far outweigh them.
