Sheffield Wednesday forward Josh Windass proved he is "pure quality" in the 4-2 win against fellow League One play-off chasers Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, Football League World's Billy Mulley has claimed on FLW TV's EFL Weekend Review.

Windass was the Owls' top scorer last term but has featured just five times so far this season due to injury.

The 28-year-old came off the bench against Argyle for his first appearance since mid-December and served a reminder of his ability – scoring Wednesday's fourth in the 84th minute to put the result beyond doubt.

Windass produced a brilliant first touch to take down Liam Palmer's floated ball forward before hammering his effort into the bottom corner on the turn.

The result leaves Wednesday three points outside the top six and Darren Moore will be hoping this can launch a promotion push in the second half of the season.

More goals from Windass could be central to that and Mulley has outlined just how important his return may be.

"It was another glimpse of how good he actually is," he said about his performance against Argyle. "He played 15 minutes at the end, so to come on and make a major impact as he did just shows the player he is, the ability he does possess, and how important he can be in what remains of the season.

"I think that if he had played a full first half of the season then Championship players would be sniffing around but the fact he has been sidelined for so long, it might be deemed as a slight risk.

"What we've seen from him in the Championship and this latest goal is that he's pure quality. The touch he took, the awareness to run into space and the subsequent finish as well is just everything that Josh Windass is about.

"He's a proper forward that knows where the back of the net is. He can score key goals at key times and he's shown that once again.

"He's a player that undoubtedly has Championship ability. It's just getting more game time into him and ensuring that he can stay fit for the remainder of the season."
