Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has revealed that the club are committed to paying their staff in full until the end of August, despite the global pandemic that has brought worldwide football to a standstill.

The outbreak of Covid-19 has brought the world to a standstill, with the EFL postponed indefinitely and no indication of a resume date.

In response to that, some clubs like Sunderland have been forced to lean on the government’s job retention scheme, furloughing first-team players in the process.

Yet, Stoke chief Coates has take a very different approach, revealing to the Telegraph that he intends to pay staff in full until the end of August, when he hopes normality has been resumed and football is back on.

At such a testing period, a number of clubs have come in for criticism for their approach, but that’s not the case following this Stoke City update, with Coates widely praised for his stance.
