Both Cardiff City and Birmingham City have both been fined following the unsavoury scenes that erupted during the clash between the teams earlier this month, report Sky Sports News.

A scrap began in the middle of the Cardiff pitch during the Bluebirds' 4-2 victory back on November 2, with both sides now being punished for failing to control their players.

The incident occured after Cardiff striker Danny Ward slid in dangerously on Kevin Mrabti, sparking a lot of pushing and shoving in the middle of the South Wales pitch.

As a result, Birmingham will now be fined £7,500 whilst the Bluebirds will have to pay £5,000 by way of a punishment for their actions.

Heading into the international break, the two sides boast similar records.

Cardiff currently sit in 14th place with 16 games of the season now elapsed whilst the Blues sit just one place higher in 13th, with both heading into the international defeat off the back of disappointing results.

Neil Warnock's Bluebirds were beaten 1-0 by Severnside rivals Bristol City on Sunday lunchtime in what proved to be the manager's last game at the helm, whilst Birmingham were narrowly beaten by the same scoreline at home to Fulham.

The verdict

I think this is more than a fair response for each club.

The impassioned reaction from the Birmingham City players was of course understandable given the nature of the challenge from Ward, but it did cross a line, whilst Cardiff were not innocent either.

Both will now move on and look to move on up the table, with the hunt for a new boss taking priority for the Bluebirds as well.
