Birmingham City and Aston Villa have both been fined by the FA for failing to control their players in the recent derby at St. Andrew's.

The clash, which Villa won 1-0, was marred by a Blues supporter running on the pitch and punching Jack Grealish, who then went on to score the winner.

However, the FA have charged the pair for a different incident which came just five minutes into the game after a strong challenge from Maikel Kieftenbeld on the Villa attacking midfielder that saw both sets of players involved in a melee.

The BBC have revealed how both clubs will have to pay £5,000 for the incident after they both accepted the charge.

Blues will also face further punishment for the attack on Grealish, which saw the fan jailed for 14 weeks as a result and banned from St. Andrew's in the future.

They have been hit with a charge of failing to control their spectators and a punishment for that will be decided in due course, although it will be far more severe than this offence.

The Verdict

The scuffle in this game that brought this fine wasn't really anything serious but the clubs know the rules and the players should behave better.

So, they can't really complain in that sense and it's a small fine in the grand scheme of things too.

Obviously, far worse was to happen as the game went on and Blues know they will be in a lot more trouble for that.
