Speaking to Football Insider recently, former Premier League football Kevin Phillips has made the confident claim that, one day, Kalvin Phillips will leave Leeds United - even if they are in the Premier League.

The central midfielder has had a fine time of things this season under Marcelo Bielsa, with his improvement under the Argentine since his arrival clear for all to see.

Certainly, he belongs in the Premier League and Leeds fans will hope he can achieve top-flight status with the club in 20/21.

Indeed, he's spoken recently to FourFourTwo magazine over his dream to do exactly that:

“I want to spend my career at Leeds and see the club doing well in the Premier League.

“I’m just enjoying every minute right now.”

Positive stuff to hear if you're a supporter of the men from Elland Road, then, but Kevin Phillips' claims around the future of the Leeds man will boost the hopes of those clubs linked with him.

He said:

“If they [Leeds] go up and he performs well somebody is going to come in with a huge bid. If a big club that is challenging for trophies comes in you are going to go.

“It is nice of him to say that and he is going to because he loves the club but from my experience if he plays well he will not be at Leeds for the rest of his career. I can guarantee that.”

The former Sunderland striker seems certain that, sooner or later, Phillips will move away for big money and this may well give Tottenham confidence that they could one day complete a deal.

The likes of The Sun has referred to the Premier League side as an interested party in the race for the midfielder, and they are one of the clubs who, financially, could get to the sort of price Leeds might not be able to turn down.

Of course, they'd need to be challenging for trophies better than they are under Jose Mourinho but the Portuguese will be confident that silverware is not far away for the Lilywhites.

And, if they can be doing that and can stump up the cash to get a deal done, Phillips feels his namesake could well be on the move from his boyhood team in such a scenario - it is an 'if' right now, though.
