Alan Hutton has backed Tottenham’s pursuit of Jarrod Bowen next month, stating that the Hull City star is a player that’s not going through a ‘flash in the pan’ stage.

Hull might be playing in the Championship, but Bowen’s form for the Tigers has the top-flight sitting up and taking notice.

Bowen has been involved in 19 goals in the Championship so far this season, scoring 15 and registering a further four assists. In addition to that he’s struck a League Cup goal, whilst had one taken off him after it deflected off Tom Eaves.

Reports are suggesting that Jose Mourinho and Tottenham hold an interest in the 22-year-old, with Hutton backing his former side in their pursuit.

“I think he is an excellent player, played against him a number of times,” Hutton explained to Football Insider.

“I think Tottenham were interested in him before, to be honest, and he was brilliant last season as well.

“So this isn’t just a flash in pan, played against him for multiple seasons and he was a very tough opponent.

“It doesn’t surprise me that they’re interested, I think he’ll be a good addition to the Tottenham team as he’s young, hungry, scoring goals and I think he fits into the mould of a Tottenham player.

“As he can play in a front three so I think it will be a really good signing for them.”

There is some fierce interest in Bowen heading into next month’s transfer window, with The Athletic crediting West Bromwich Albion with a potential move.

The Baggies are top of the Championship table heading into the final weekend before Christmas, however, their nearest challengers, Leeds United, are unlikely to be making a move for the Hull City marksmen.

The Verdict

Bowen has been in excellent form this season for Hull, and even going back to last year, he was terrorising full-backs, as Hutton knows.

The right winger has the ability to cut in and use his left foot, whilst he’s got the flexibility to move central or play from the left.

He looks every bit a Premier League player and for what Tottenham would have to pay to land him, you might see it as a risk worth taking.
