Liam Cooper's dismissal for a reckless challenge in the first half of Leeds United's dramatic 4-3 defeat at the hands of Millwall on Saturday afternoon means that Thomas Christiansen will be missing as many as four first team players in their next fixture.
Leeds go into that forthcoming match, the trip to struggling Hull City on 30th January, looking to end a run of five matches without a win, their worst streak of the season and the job will be made all the more difficult by the extensive list of absentees.
Cooper, Kalvin Phillips, Samuel Saiz and Eunan O'Kane are the men who will miss out due to their recent ill-discipline, which is fast becoming an issue that Christiansen needs to act as quickly as possible to eradicate.
That is the view of Reading midfielder Dave Edwards, who expressed his concerns in the course of his role as a pundit for the Football on 5, The Championship.
When asked if ill-discipline is becoming a worry for Christiansen, Wales international Edwards said: "“It is. Obviously it cost them last week at Ipswich and it’s something they need to rectify quickly because they’re trying to put a promotion charge together and it helps when you’ve got eleven players on the pitch."
The Verdict
Red cards in consecutive weeks from players who form the spine of the Leeds team is just not good enough and Christiansen need to get the message across to his squad that the discipline has to improve.
The players who are meant to be setting the example to the squad are getting sent off and unable to help their squad out of their current slump and it is something that has to change - and fast.
