Danny Mills has named four players that he thinks will be influential for Leeds United in the Championship play-offs.

Leeds finished third in the Championship table, losing three out of their final four matches and missing out on automatic promotion to Sheffield United.

The Whites will have another chance to achieve promotion in the play-offs and face Derby County in the semi-finals, with the first leg taking place at Pride Park on Saturday evening.

Former Leeds defender Mills believes forward Kemar Roofe, midfielder Kalvin Phillips and defenders Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson will be key for the Whites in the play-offs.

"My fear for Leeds is whether they can perform when the pressure is on. The big players need to deliver against Derby, starting on Saturday," Mills told Football Insider.

“Kemar Roofe needs to have a good game. Scoring goals and converting chances has been a bit of a problem for Leeds.

“The two central defenders, Jansson and Liam Cooper, need to play well. Kalvin Phillips is key. If he gets dragged out of position, Leeds are very vulnerable.

“The full-backs and midfielders bomb on, and if Phillips is not there to protect the centre-backs, there is suddenly a huge gap to exploit, and they are outnumbered.”

Roofe is Leeds' top scorer this season with 14 goals, but has struggled since returning from a knee injury and is without a goal in his last eleven games.

Phillips has had an outstanding season for the Whites, having been transformed into a defensive midfielder under the guidance of head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Both Cooper and Jansson have been important player for Leeds this season and both centre-backs will need to produce big performances in the play-offs.

The Verdict:

I think Mills is probably right.

Having challenged for automatic promotion all season, there is now enormous pressure on Leeds to win the play-offs and the big players have got to perform.

All the players need to step up, but Bielsa will be looking for these four to make the difference. Especially Roofe, who could be low on confidence after missing a penalty against Ipswich Town at the weekend.
