Alan Hutton has offered an insight into what it is like facing a Leeds United team managed by Marcelo Bielsa.

Hutton was part of the Aston Villa side that came up against Leeds twice in the Championship last season.

The defender was part of the Villa side that were beaten 3-2 by Leeds at Villa Park and was named on the bench for the reverse fixture at Elland Road, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The full-back has offered insight into how difficult it is to face a team managed by Bielsa and revealed that he was worried about facing Leeds when he heard that the Argentine was training his players three times a day.

Is this the WORST Leeds United XI from the last 15 years? We'll let YOU decide....

“It’s very difficult facing a Bielsa side,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“He’s got them working so hard. I always remember, and I don’t know how it came out, but I heard he was getting them training two and three times a day and it was very high press and 100-percent all the time.

“I knew going into it was going to be difficult and I think you get that feeling as soon as a game kicks off. It’s in your face, boys are putting crosses into the box and they’re running at full sprint back, you really know you’re in for a game when that starts to happen.

“We all knew it was going to be difficult. Massive support, massive team, good player.”

Bielsa took charge at Elland Road last summer and was able to guide Leeds to within touching distance of promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds are currently top of the Championship table on goal difference after winning five of their opening seven league matches and will be looking to continue their momentum with another three points against Derby at Elland Road tomorrow.

The Verdict

This is great insight from Hutton. Bielsa has done a magnificent job with Leeds and even though his side missed out on promotion last season, the improvement that they made from the season before was there for all to see.

Bielsa is known for his high-intensity, high-energy style of football and he was able to transform a Leeds side that finished 13th in the Championship the season before to one of the best teams in the division.

The Whites have made a promising start to their second season under Bielsa and have every chance of winning promotion this campaign.
