BT Sport pundit and former Norwich City striker Chris Sutton has tweeted that Russell Martin will be a "loss" to the Canaries when his projected move to Rangers on loan until the end of the season is completed.

The Scottish international defender has only played in five Championship for Daniel Farke's side this season and is moving up north of the border again with hopes of playing regular football and putting himself back in the international frame, as Scotland wait the appointment of a new manager after Gordon Strachan's sacking.

Clearly Sutton thinks that Farke should be keeping hold of Martin as he seeks to move the Canaries up from their current position in the bottom half of the Championship, which has been made all the more difficult with the departure of Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield.

The Verdict

Martin is a good pro and leader but at 32, his best years are behind him and Scottish football is more suited to him now.

In my view, this isn't a major loss to Norwich and the Pritchard blow will be a much, much tougher one to absorb when January ends.
