Kevin Phillips has described Kalvin Phillips as 'one of the best midfielders in the country'.

The 24-year-old returned to action for Leeds United in Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with Brentford and showed exactly what Marcelo Bielsa's side have been missing with an impressive display.

Phillips missed the previous three fixtures through suspension but will be hoping to make up for lost time as he tries to get the Whites' promotion push back on track.

The midfielder has certainly been one of Leeds United's best players this term, and according to the pundit, Phillips will be a 'massive help' in their quest for promotion.

Speaking to Football Insider, Kevin Phillips said: “It’s always a blow when you lose arguably one of the best midfielders in the country in that position.

“He’s a leader, and it is that timely boost that Leeds need. Having an influential player like that back in the team will be massive help.

“He’s a great player, one of the best in the Championship, and Bielsa will be delighted to have him back.”

How many of Leeds United's number 10s can you remember?

The verdict

Kalvin Phillips will certainly have a big role to play between now and the end of the season.

The fact that results went downhill as he served his suspension was no coincidence as the 24-year-old is a crucial cog in the way that Marcelo Bielsa's side play.

He was very impressive in the 1-1 draw with Brentford, and the hope now will be that he can inspire the team in getting back to winning ways.

If he can do that then he'll be delighted as he looks to get his hometown team into the Premier League.
