Tottenham Hotspur insider John Wenham believes Troy Parrott may head out on loan to Championship outfit Sunderland this summer, delivering his prediction in an interview with Football Insider.

The Republic of Ireland international is currently away with Antonio Conte's men in South Korea as part of Spurs' pre-season tour - but isn't short of interest from elsewhere after managing to impress at MK Dons during the 2021/22 campaign.

Recording 10 goals and seven assists in 47 appearances for Liam Manning's men, he was a key reason why the Buckinghamshire outfit were able to challenge for a top-two spot towards the latter stages of the season.

With this, he has attracted interest from second-tier quartet Middlesbrough, Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City as well as Alex Neil's side who are currently in need of more depth up top.

Although League One interest remains in the Irishman, The Athletic's Charlie Eccleshare believes he is more likely to join a second-tier side this summer and this has provided a boost to the mentioned quintet.

Pundit Wenham believes he could end up at the Stadium of Light before the summer window shuts, following their promotion back to the second tier of English football.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: "I can see Tory Parrott going to Sunderland.

"I know Sunderland do have interest in him. They have a big Scottish striker at the moment but the beauty of Troy is that he can drop in as a 10.

"He would get a lot of game time there. Sunderland are a very big, well-supported club and I think Troy would thrive off that audience, that crowd.

"It would be a very good signing for them. He would be linking up with some of his friends in Jack Clarke and Dennis Cirkin."

The Verdict:

It will certainly be interesting to see where he ends up - because Boro, Preston, QPR and the Black Cats are all in desperate need of new forwards at this stage.

However, it's currently unclear whether he will be a regular starter at the Riverside Stadium because you could easily see three new forwards potentially arriving on Teesside between now and the end of the summer window.

The Lilywhites are also in need of more attacking firepower following Cameron Archer's return to Aston Villa - and he could potentially be one of the first names on the teamsheet alongside Emil Riis.

If Michael Beale operates with two up top, a start could be in the offing for the Irishman at Loftus Road, though Lyndon Dykes and Tyler Roberts could keep him out of the first 11.

Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe could also keep him out of the starting lineup at Swansea City, so the Stadium of Light may be one of his best potential options at this stage if he wants to get plenty of game time under his belt.

This game time is important if he wants to force his way into his current side's first team during the 2023/24 season.
