David Prutton is expecting Middlesbrough’s wait for their first Sky Bet Championship victory of the season to continue this weekend, when they face Sheffield United, reports Sky Sports.
Writing in his weekly prediction column, Prutton predicts that the Championship newbies will hold Garry Monk’s side to a 1-1 draw, with Billy Sharp continuing his excellent goalscoring form, by getting the game’s first goal.
Despite Boro spending big this summer of their Championship return, they could not pick up three-points last weekend, with Wolverhampton Wanderers handing Monk’s side a 1-0 defeat.
Worryingly for Monk, Wolves managed to nullify his multi-million pound strikeforce, something Sheffield United will be hopeful of doing this weekend.
Chris Wilder’s side have enjoyed a great start to their first Championship campaign since 2011, picking up three-points on the opening day of the season.
The Blades came up against a well fancied Brentford side, and put in a positive display, with Sharp’s goal enough to set Wilder’s side up for a 1-0 victory and the perfect start to their Championship return.
The South Yorkshire outfit also picked up a victory in the Carabao Cup during the week, beating Walsall 3-2, whilst Boro enjoyed a midweek break, as they do not enter the competition until the second-round.
This is a big call from Prutton, particularly with Garry Monk’s side heading to the Riverside Stadium for their first home game of the season.
Last week’s defeat to Wolves will have infuriated Monk, and there will surely be a backlash in the coming week, which the Blades will have to deal with.
However, Wilder’s side will be confident in their own ability, and after two positive results, the Blades will not care who they come up against.
