Jobi McAnuff has tipped Ben White to reach the very top after a successful spell with Leeds United.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation since moving to Elland Road on loan from Brighton, establishing himself as a virtual ever-present for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

Such has been the quality of his performances, White has attracted interest from some of the Premier League's biggest clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool.

But while the defender is capable of playing at the top in the long-term, McAnuff has heaped praise on White for the level of his performances in Leeds' promotion push.

Speaking to Sky Sports' EFL Podcast, McAnuff said: “I’m going for Ben White [as the best young player in the Championship].

"He’s another young, really exciting talent.

“He’s really impressed me with how comfortable he is on the ball. He’s really shown a maturity beyond his years.

“We all know the pressure of playing for Leeds and the expectation from that football club but he’s really handled that.

“He’s got all aspects to his game. He doesn’t mind a tackle, he reads it really well and has the composure to find that pass and really get Leeds on the go.”

Asked about White's potential to play for a top Premier League club, McAnuff said: "Well you look at John Stones, for example, for me that’s the next step for him; getting a move or going back to Brighton and possibly playing there, proving himself at the top level.

“He’s got all the ingredients to go and do it, that’s for sure.”

The verdict

It's no surprise to see Ben White attracting the sort of interest that he has.

The 22-year-old has taken to life at Elland Road like a duck to water, and his ability to handle the pressure of such a big club will be hugely appealing to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

Of course Brighton will want to keep the defender, and as we've seen in recent season there is a huge step up between the Championship and the Premier League, so perhaps White would be better staying with the Seagulls for his own development, or even moving to Leeds if they did secure promotion.
