David Prutton is expecting Chris Coleman’s wait for his first victory as Sunderland boss to continue this weekend, with Burton Albion beating them in the Sky Bet Championship’s relegation six-pointer, reports Sky Sports.

Writing in his prediction column for Sky, Prutton has predicted that Nigel Clough’s Burton will beat Sunderland 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium, a result that would cut the Black Cats adrift at the foot of the Championship table.

Entering this weekend’s fixtures, Sunderland sit bottom of the table, with just one victory to their name all season and on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in Coleman’s first game in-charge.

Burton are just slightly ahead of Sunderland in the Championship’s standings, with Clough’s side in 22nd, three points ahead of this weekend’s opponents and just one adrift of safety.

Sunderland’s only victory of the Championship season so far came against Norwich in mid-August, whilst Burton have picked up just one victory in their last 10 Championship fixtures, which came prior to November’s international break against Millwall.

The Verdict

What a claim this is from Prutton!

If Sunderland fail to pick up a victory this weekend, their chance of survival is going to start looking increasingly slim, and although the season is only in November, this is surely a must-win for Coleman’s side.

If Burton move six points ahead of Sunderland then suddenly the latter’s task becomes a lot harder.

Both clubs are due a victory, but Sunderland need a victory to lift spirits within Coleman’s dressing room.

A cagey affair, but Sunderland to clinch a vital three points.
