Football pundit Frank McAvennie has told Football Insider that he expects Peterborough United striker Siriki Dembele to move to Celtic this summer, after the player reportedly requested to leave the club back in January.

The tricky forward has long been linked with a departure from London Road after ripping it up this season in League One as the Posh made their long awaited return to the Championship.

Celtic are said to be one of a number of clubs that have targeted the 24-year-old, with their arch rivals Rangers plus English duo Crystal Palace and Fulham also said to be interested in securing the player's signature.

Now, McAvennie has claimed that he expects the player to join Celtic this summer over their Glasgow rivals:

“This boy sounds like he’s a bit like Toney and he’s had a good season with Peterborough.

“Listen, if it comes to a choice between Fulham or Rangers and Celtic, I don’t know the boy’s feelings but you have to pick Celtic or Rangers.

“I know I’m biased but it’s no competition for me. Rangers have too many strikers already, so I expect him to join Celtic.”

Dembele has 13 goals and 10 assists to his name so far this campaign and currently has just one year remaining on his contract with the League One promotion winners.

He will be looking to add to that tally this weekend as Posh finish their season away to Doncaster Rovers on Sunday.

The Verdict

From a Peterborough United perspective, you have to feel that they will be willing to sit back and let this saga unfold as they have a player who is wanted by a lot of top clubs who is still under contract at London Road.

It was inevitable that Dembele was going to attract interest sooner or later as his form continued and the fact that Celtic and Rangers are sniffing about is testament to his talents.

I do too feel that he will move to the Hoops, as that is where his brother, Karamoko plies his trade at present.

This combined with the fact that Celtic play in Europe leads me to believe that the Scottish Premiership side will get their man if they stump up the fee that Posh demand.
