Lee Hendrie believes that Celtic could turn to Asmir Begovic if Eddie Howe is appointed as the Hoops new boss, which is expected to happen.

The Glasgow giants are on the lookout for a new boss after Neil Lennon left earlier this year, and it has been suggested for some time that Howe is in line to take over, with reports claiming that an announcement will be made this week.

And, providing that all goes to plan, Howe will be set for a busy summer as he looks to reshape the Celtic squad.

Bringing in a new keeper is sure to be a priority for the club as it has been a problem position this season, and Hendrie told Football FanCast that a reunion with Begovic could suit all parties.

"Begovic, you know, he’s a big player. Again, he’s had a very good season at Bournemouth. I do feel that, yes, the goalkeeping area is certainly a massive must for me. Begovic is a very, very good goalkeeper. There are lots of goalkeepers out there that would certainly be attracted to go into Celtic."

The Bosnian international could be one of several players the Cherries are ready to sell as they deal with the financial implications of another season in the Championship.

The verdict

There's no doubt that Howe will be searching for a new number one, although Begovic didn't always play for him at Bournemouth.

But, the big stopper has enjoyed a very good season for Bournemouth and he has the experience to cope with the demands that would come with playing for Celtic.

If Howe does take over then it's natural that he will look at players he knows, so this is one to potentially monitor this season.
