Former England international Paul Robinson has backed Karlan Grant to step up and become a key player for West Brom this season.
The forward was a big-money addition for Albion last season as they looked to stay in the Premier League. However, the Baggies were relegated and Grant failed to make an impact, scoring just once in 21 games.
Therefore, it’s fair to say supporters haven’t seen the best of the ex-Huddersfield man, but Robinson told Football Insider that he will come good under Valerien Ismael this season.
“They will see the Grant that they paid big money for. The Premier League was a big step up for him and he found it very difficult to start off with. I think now, back in the Championship with a full pre-season under his belt at West Brom, we will see a completely different player.
“I expect him get the goals to give them a real chance of returning straight back to the Premier League. This season I expect him to establish himself and prove his doubters wrong.”
West Brom begin their season with a tough trip to Bournemouth on Friday night.
Are these 10 facts about West Brom actually true?
This is a huge year for Grant because he arrived with big expectations but it didn’t work for him in the top-flight last time out.
In fairness, the change of management and style of play didn’t help, although the fans would’ve still expected more from the attacker.
As Robinson says though, there’s no excuses now. He’s had a full pre-season, he’s starting fresh with the new manager and many will share his view that Grant will be crucial to Albion in their promotion push.
